Teaching
The Institute of General Practice integrates daily practice with university research to enhance teaching methods. Our goal is to train medical students, residents and doctors to become skilled general practitioners. As a team, we are dedicated to our field and collaborate closely with other primary care practices to provide high-quality healthcare and training.
The General Medicine curriculum in the model degree course consists of traditional teaching formats in the form of seminars and lectures, e-learning, examination courses and clinical rotations. The Longitudinal Module in General Medicine (LoMA) was introduced in summer 2022. During LoMA, students from the second to the eighth semester learn the key aspects of holistic primary care through diverse teaching modules and virtual case studies. The case-based learning concept is characterized by the interplay of digital, interactive self-study, lectures and practical seminars in small groups.
The teaching of general medicine is integrated into the lectures of courses referred to as competency fields and interdisciplinary blocks of the model degree course. Students should learn how to deal with patients using a holistic understanding of the case and be able to apply their growing specialist knowledge to the issues of everyday practice.
Dedicated GPs teach the basics of general medicine and basic knowledge such as clinical examination in their primary care practices during clinical rotations.
If you are interested in a clinical rotation with a GP, you can find possible practices in the clinical traineeship exchange of the KV Nordrhein .
During the practical year (PJ), essential GP tasks and skills are taught in accredited primary care practices, bringing together the knowledge acquired during previous studies, conventional medical guidelines and daily practice. Our work is only successful due to the close cooperation with colleagues in external primary care practices and through continuous scientific exchange with other teaching institutions of general medicine.
