Practical year
Academic primary care practices are authorized to accept students in the practical year (PJ) in accordance with the rules of the applicable licensing regulations.
List of criteria
Academic primary care practices have the following mandatory criteria:
- Activity as a statutory health insurance physician
- General practitioner care
- Basic orientation towards conventional medicine (not exclusively homeopathy)
- Carrying out house calls
- Care of people in old people's/nursing homes
- Carrying out preventive examinations
- Number of patients greater than 500 per quarter
In addition, at least four of the following characteristics:
- Joint / group practice
- ECG / ergometry
- Sonography (at least abdomen)
- Pulmonary function diagnostics
- Doppler vascular diagnostics
- Participation in disease management programs (DMP)

The accreditation procedure is carried out by the Institute of General Practice and the Dean´s Office. The GPs from accredited academic primary practices are also directly involved in teaching the subject at the university. The accredited practices bear the title: Academic Primary Care Practice of the University of Cologne.

Please discuss the tertial with the Academic Primary Care Practice and obtain a confirmation stating the period.
The Dean of Studies' Office is responsible for the application and allocation of PJ places.

The accreditation procedure is carried out by the Institute of General Practice and the Office of the Dean of Studies and managed by the Dean. Their holders are also directly involved in teaching the subject at the university. The accredited practices bear the title: Academic Teaching Practice of the University of Cologne.
Scholarship
The practices do not pay any PJ remuneration, but there is a grant of 600 euros per month from the KV-Nordrhein. You must apply for this early on. You can apply for a grant from the North Rhine Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.
